Instant Messaging In the Workplace

 Instant Messaging (IM) may eventually overtake e-mail in the office as a preferred mode for quick informal communication. Office workers like IM for its speed and immediacy. IM is being used in 70% of all businesses. The Panel will discuss commercial and noncommercial IM Software as well as give live demonstrations at each table. Advantages and disadvantages of IM’ing will also be discussed including proper etiquette, SPIMing, safety tips, and various security issues. Current users will give testimonies as how they use IM in the current workplace and demonstrate other useful applications such as SKYPE (Free International/World Telephony Software) and Remote Desktop Access (Free Software).
