Integrate Your Shipping PCs to the System i
Joe
Johnson from UPS will present an overview of the Web based applications
available to developers wishing to integrate with the APIs and Internet Tools
offered by UPS. He will cover how to
license these tools for free. Joe will also
touch on the basic XML and HTTP POST methods required to access the tools. Jim Tympanick, the local UPS specialist who many of
you know, will also be attending our meeting.
Get more
info on the UPS Online Tools at http://www.ups.com/e_comm_access/toolintro.
Joe
has been with UPS for 32 years. He began
unloading trucks at night while finishing his BS in Sociology at Bridgewater
State College in Massachusetts. At BSC
he completed a course in BASIC and learned Fortran on a CDC 2000 as an
undergraduate research assistant. Joe
has most of his experience on the PC platform. He has been pushing this platform to its
limits since the first white box landed on his desk in 1985 and he learned to
program on an as needed basis. Joe
participated in several beta projects as UPS increasingly computerized their
operations. He pioneered social
applications in the BBS environment moderating special interest groups (SIGs)
in FIDO and the World Message Exchange in the pre World Wide Web days. Within weeks of the first tracking application
on the Internet Joe was building programs to automate their consumption. Since 1997 Joe has been part of UPS’s Customer
Resource operations. In 2001 he
completed a MS in Internet Engineering at Marlboro College in Vermont. Joe has helped many customers integrate with
UPS’s web applications. Today Joe works
for the UPS Solutions Group as a Solution Designer.

Message
from the President
Here
we are, starting the 2009/2010 NEMUG season.
2010…seems as if the future is upon us.
With the ever evolving aspects of the world we occupy, we would like
NEMUG to stand as a constant, an entity unto itself that will support the needs
of its membership and fulfill the doctrine of its charter. This is challenging in the varied, complex
environments that are now ours.
At
the planning meeting this summer we discussed many areas of member interest
(and frustration!) and came away with topics for the year that we collectively
think will interest and support us. I
hope our members will embrace the new season and attend the monthly
presentations. As always any input,
comments, ideas, criticisms, good or bad are welcome. I look forward to a season of robust
bantering, and discussion at the meetings.
Let’s
interact, get to know our fellow members, and pull from each other’s strengths.
What one doesn’t have in their
repertoire, someone else usually does.
Here’s
to a good productive year! May The Force
be with us.
Dick
